MindDog Training Brisbane
Local Training Support for Families on the mindDog Journey
Are you enrolled in the mindDog program and looking for an experienced, force free trainer to support you and your dog through the journey?
We are here to help.
Luna Rae Dog Training offers training support for clients working toward psychiatric assistance dog certification through mindDog Australia, the country’s largest psychiatric assistance dog organisation.
What is the MindDog Program?
MindDog Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that assists people living with mental health conditions to train and certify their own psychiatric assistance dog.

Once certified, a mindDog handler gains public access rights, allowing their dog to accompany them in spaces that other dogs cannot enter. For many people, this access can be life-changing.

The mindDog program requires all training to be carried out using force free, trust-based methods only. Handlers are the primary trainer throughout the process, supported by a trainer who provides guidance, coaching and accountability across a 12-month training period
How We Support You
Because you are the one training your dog throughout the mindDog journey, our role is to build your skills, knowledge and confidence so you can do that effectively.
We work with you and your dog in your home and local environment, focusing on the practical skills and behaviours your dog will need to demonstrate to pass the Public Access Test (PAT).
Sessions may include:
- Foundation obedience and life skills relevant to the PAT requirements
- Lead manners and calm behaviour in public settings
- Appropriate responses around people, children, other animals and distractions
- Settling and impulse control in a variety of environments
- Desensitisation to unfamiliar sights, sounds and situations
- Guidance on your training practice and progress between sessions
- Support preparing documentation at your 3-month, 6-month and 9-month milestones
Is My Dog Ready?
Before entering the mindDog program, your dog will need to demonstrate a solid foundation of basic skills, including:
- Walking calmly on a loose lead without pulling or lunging
- Sitting, dropping and staying on cue
- Coming when called, even around distractions
- Appropriate, calm behaviour around people, children and other dogs
- No aggression, excessive fear, nuisance barking or inappropriate toileting in public
Not quite there yet? Our private training consultations are a great place to build these foundations before you apply.
